Re•Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice is seeking a Data/Archive Coordinator to join our team part-time, 10 hours/week, to assist with the development and implementation of accessible digital data and arts outputs management protocols and systems. 

The Re•Vision Centre is a dynamic and growing arts and social science research centre at the University of Guelph specializing in the use of visual, digital, and sensory methods. Re•Vision is home to an assemblage of inter- and transdisciplinary research projects dedicated to exploring ways that marginalized and misrepresented communities can use the arts to advance social inclusion and justice. 

JOB OVERVIEW

The Re•Vision Centre Data/Archive Coordinator will support a range of research projects and activities at Re•Vision: The Centre for Art and Social Justice through the coordination and management of various kinds of digital data and other outputs including video, image, audio and text. The Coordinator will be responsible for developing file naming structures across projects, indexing, organizing and retrieving files, and the general management of digital archival materials. The Data Coordinator will support Re•Vision Centre staff and our partners with archiving, storage and file management and act as a liaison between Re•Vision Centre staff and our partners in this capacity. The Data Coordinator will also assist in the development and implementation of data and outputs management systems and policies. 

JOB DUTIES

File Naming 

  • Developing file naming structures for the Re•Vision Centre digital data and arts outputs archive.

  • Creating a metadata and tag systems standards for Re•Vision Centre digital data.

Photo and Video Archive 

  • Managing the Re•Vision video archive including uploading and storing videos, creating web albums for Re•Vision publications.

  • Managing the Re•Vision photo archive including uploading and storing photos, and maintaining image file structures.

Promotion and Knowledge Mobilization Materials 

  • Maintaining photo, video, document and other digital data and arts outputs archives related to Re•Vision events and research activities.

  • Maintaining the archives in such a way that they are readily accessed for multiple dissemination purposes.

Document Storage

  • Managing the Re•Vision research document archive including uploading, storing and maintaining document file structures

  • Storing transcripts of interviews, focus groups, meetings and events.

Ethics and Ethical Storage 

  • Managing ethics process data, filing and storing ethics certificates and documents in secure storage area.

  • Managing and storing photo and video release and consent files

  • Encrypting data where required

Accessibility 

  • Overseeing the captioning and audio describing of videos in the archives. This includes liaising with captioning and description professionals.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven knowledge of and experience with information systems, data storage, data maintenance, and archiving

  • Excellent understanding of data administration and archival management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)

  • Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies

  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word etc.)

  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Familiarity with metadata standards and practices (e.g. Dublin Core, Homosaurus)

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies

  • Knowledge of accessibility practices

  • Experience working in academic settings

  • Advanced studies in Library Science or Information Studies would be a huge asset
