Story Idea Prompts
Having trouble narrowing down your story? Here are some writing prompts you can choose from that might help you get started! Feel free to write, speak to your whānau, or think in response to these prompts.
Repetitive prompts for generating story ideas
Choose one of the following and start each sentence with one of these lines. Try to keep writing, speaking or thinking for 7 minutes. Try not to stop, even if this means you are just writing or saying “umm umm” for parts of it.

Ideas for framing your story
How do you define family/whānau? And how has autism/takiwātanga influenced your definition?
Describe your utopia or dystopia relating to autism/takiwātanga and inclusion
What objects tell the story of parenting and/or autism?
Tell the story of the most vivid exclusion or inclusion experience related to being autistic or as family/whānau of an autistic person
What do you want others to know about your story of autism/takiwātanga?
Write an unsent letter to someone in your life, or an institution you have encountered, that has impacted your experiences caring for or being someone who has attracted the label of autism.
Write your vision for the future five years from now.
